My girlfriend just purchased this classic car to be converted to run on waste vegetable oil. The alternator died a few days ago and we decided to take the opportunity to install the larger 70 Amp unit in anticipation of the dual-tank kit which will require more power. So being the first step on this journey I wanted to document as much as I could and share it with everyone! It was a pain to pull the old alternator out, Mercedes engineers overbuilt the bracket to say the least and we had to resort to brute force measures to ultimately make the swap. But all-in-all it was pretty straight forward and the car is now running great! Feel free to contact me with any questions regarding this fun project. This video shows how to use a deluxe water test kit to test for moisture content in oil.

Using this test, you can easily identify moisture content in most liquids from .005% (50 PPM) to over 50% (500,000 PPM).

It utilizes Calcium Hydride to react with water molecules to form Hydrogen which is then measured as pressure on a pressure gauge.

We test two samples of oil. One is new oil with no water and the other is a mixture of water and oil.

You’ll see how easy it is to quickly and accurately measure water content using this test.

Watch in high quality!

This video will show you how to test Biodiesel and methanol for the presence of soap. By using a simple test kit developed by Arbor Biofuels Company and marketed by Utah Biodiesel Supply you can quickly identify the soap content of Biodiesel, methanol, or other liquids.

The Method
1) Dissolve 10 mL of sample to be tested into 100 mL of 99% pure Isopropyl Alcohol
2) Add 10-20 drops of Bromophenol Blue to the mixture
3) Add measured amounts of 0.01 Normal Hydrochloric Acid to the mixture until it turns yellow
4) Record how many milliliters it took to turn the solution yellow
5) Calculate the soap content

Formula
(mL Acid Used X 304) = Soap Parts Per Million

Goal
Under 60 PPM

This video illustrates how to do a titration using our mini-titration kit.

To titrate:
1) Add 10 mL Isopropyl Alcohol
2) Add 1 mL Oil
3) Add 2-3 Drops Phenolphthalein
4) Mix Together
5) Slowly Add Titration Solution
6) Stop When It Turns Purple
7) Measure How Much Titration Solution Was Used
Add That Number To The Base For The Catalyst You’re Using
9) Result Identifies How Many Grams Per Liter Of Oil Are Required To Produce Biodiesel From The Oil Titrated

Example:
100 liters of oil
Titration Yielded 5
KOH Is Being Used
KOH’s Base Is 7
5 + 7 = 12 Grams
100 x 12 = 1200 Grams Required To React 100 Liters Of Oil
