PHAM VAN DUC vcd biodiesel…The factor that made his dream fly

MINISTRY OF SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY
Department of Intellectual Property
DEPARTMENT OF INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY HEREBY NOTIFY
Applicant (*): PHAM VAN DUC (VN)
Address: Kim Giao Bac hamlet, Hoai Hai commune, Hoai Nhon district, Binh Dinh province.
Invention name: Biology Diesel produced from waste vegetable oil and its production process.
Initiative from an 8X young citizen….
It is possible to produce successfully biodiesel fuel (BDF) by simple chemical methods without using any foreign technologies, Pham Van Duc stated with confidence: If biodiesel is produced and introduced into the market, the cost will be lower than that of current diesel.
Diesel is the common fuel used in internal combustion engines in machinery, ships, vehicles, etc. The currently used fuel has been produced from petroleum. Emissions from burning petroleum diesel are one of the factors causing environment pollution. Therefore, in many countries, the research into more environmental friendly fuels has been constantly carried out.
BDF is by far not a novelty. Since the 1970s, the production of BDF has been under way. There were also several projects in Vietnam to produce BDF, however mostly applying foreign technologies, for instance, the production of BDF by ultrasonic process from Japan. And the low cost production of BDF has been a headache for scientists.
In that general situation, it is interesting to realize that there is a young student registering into the race track of BDF producing process. That is Pham Van Duc, a student from Ha Noi University of Mining and Geology.
From a minor incident by chance, Duc chose the topic of producing BDF as his graduation thesis (in 2006). Upon choosing his topic, his guiding professor asked him: Are you confident enough to find out a new better method to produce BDF?
Pham Van Duc led a very hard life when he was a student. He had to walk about 12 km and got an inadequate sleep on a bus to school, to the places where he worked as a tutor or even wandered along the old book shops in Lang Ha street, Hanoi. Then, once came to his mind a question: Why didnt they use simply chemical reactions to produce BDF instead of referring to the help of modern equipment to speed up the metabolism process? and he worked hard to find out the answer to that question. Finally, he managed to find out a compound of liquid catalysis that met the requirements of fast metabolism process. He revealed: This compound is produced from very cheap chemicals but able to expel glycerin out of the aliphatic acids in the waste vegetable oil, with a condensation of soap, leaving a layer of precious transparent BDF on the surface
After several opportunities, Duc finally got an introduction from PhD. Professor Nguyen Lan Dung to Tam Sinh Nghia Company, which agreed to invest and help him in further research. In order to carry out large scale production, Duc planned to collect waste cooking oil from restaurants, food producing plants He even planned to create a network all over the city to collect waste cooking oil at the price of VND 3,000 a litre trough junk buyers.
When being asked about his secret of success, he replied after a long instant of thought: Perhaps because of my naughtiness. From childhood, Duc was an active boy and often tampered with the machines in his house. Thats why he had a period of time when he didnt have to pay for his accommodation because he worked as a computer technician for his guest house owner. His keen character of curiosity creates his research viewpoint: Knowledge around us is very immense, thats why when seeking and studying something, Duc likes starting with the question Why rather than studying hard from the start.

Well-known all over his 48th course with the name the Biodiesel young man, Pham Van Duc, student of the University of Mining and Geology, always brings surprise to everybody. Born in a poor coastal area called Hoai Nhon, Binh Dinh, but with his good will of studying and overcoming difficulties, ad with a firm determination to fulfil his passion, officially confirming the truth that everybody needs to have a dream in life and try hard to make it come true when he introduced the idea that many people considered as crazy: Producing biodiesel from waste vegetable oil.

This video is of my portable processor running a batch. This video doesn’t show you how to make biodiesel, just the equipment required.

This reactor has since been decommissioned and replaced with updated equipment, a vacuum venturi in the style of a GL type processor. It has a methanol recovery system and will soon be joined to a dry wash filtration column using saw dust or wood shavings to remove any residual glycerin or methanol still in liquid suspension
